Meaning, if you want to run both a Facebook ad and Instagram ad, you can get your ad on both platforms with just a few extra clicks (see below)\u2026 and possibly some minor tweaks to what your ad says and looks like (more on that in a moment).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"984\" height=\"1182\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image3.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-161304\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s get clear on why \u201cBOTH\u201d is the answer\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re new to social media advertising or you\u2019ve been advertising for a while, it\u2019s in your budget&#8217;s best interest to TEST any new offer or messaging on both platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you test both, every time you launch a different campaign, you will see that the results you get per platform will vary and are affected by many different factors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Time and day you launch<\/li><li>Who your ad gets shown to first (even if you\u2019re targeting the same audience)<\/li><li>Season<\/li><li>Competition<\/li><li>Ad Spend<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That list could go on and on. And \u201cthe algorithm\u201d is a tricky thing that can\u2019t exactly be mastered because of it\u2019s unknown and uncontrollable factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You see, if one platform was better than the other, everyone would be using that one!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you\u2019ve heard that \u201cyour audience\u201d may be on one over the other\u2026 you need to throw that thought out the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/264810\/number-of-monthly-active-facebook-users-worldwide\/#:~:text=How%20many%20users%20does%20Facebook,used%20online%20social%20network%20worldwide.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statista.com<\/a>, \u201cFacebook has roughly 2.93 billion monthly active users as of the first quarter of 2022\u201d and \u201cis the most used online social network worldwide\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instagram, on the other hand, has roughly 1 billion monthly active users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BUT\u2026 no matter who your audience is, your targeting options are selected in Ads Manager the same EXACT way for both platforms\u2026 using the same EXACT data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"460\" height=\"746\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-161306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dmwsprod.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image4.png 460w, https:\/\/dmwsprod.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image4-185x300.png 185w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It could be true that MORE of your audience is active on one of the platforms, but they\u2019re definitely on both and that should not be your big deciding factor on where to put your ads\u2026 especially if you have a smaller ad budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What a smart marketer will do is test their ad on both Facebook and Instagram, review the results, and if one platform strongly outperforms the other, then you can move all or more of your ad spend over to that one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, <strong>using that data you collect is why the answer is also IT DEPENDS<\/strong>. So\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STEP 1: Test BOTH platforms<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STEP 2: DEPENDING on the results, decide on continuing with one or both<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But here\u2019s where things get a little more complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Facebook ads and Instagram ads have several \u201cplacement\u201d options! You saw about half in the gif above, but there\u2019s really about 2 dozen of them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EXPERT TIP: <\/strong>If you\u2019re just getting started, just focus on <em>mobile<\/em> Feeds &amp; Stories. After you start seeing results you like, then you can test other ad placements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now there are definitely more than this, but the biggest Key Differences to be aware of when running a Facebook ad Vs Instagram are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Video Length<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meta is always changing the rules on how long a video ad can be per platform and placement. The company does recommend running shorter videos, under 30 seconds. HOWEVER, take that recommendation with a grain of salt. Longer videos can still do very well IF they have a good HOOK (first few seconds that draws in your viewer), and is also helpful, entertaining, or both. That being said, I recommend going shorter when possible &amp; keeping it under 2 min so you can run your video on both platforms without any issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Video &amp; Image Ad Dimensions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, this isn\u2019t just a difference per platform. It depends on your ad placement. You can easily look up all the recommended aspects per placement (also shown while you&#8217;re creating your ad). But if you don\u2019t want to bother with different dimensions for different placements, the most universal and best optimized ratio for your content is going to be either a 1:1 or 4:5 ratio with a&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>resolution of at least 1080 x 1080 pixels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalmarketer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image2-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-161307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dmwsprod.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image2-1.png 1000w, https:\/\/dmwsprod.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image2-1-300x189.png 300w, https:\/\/dmwsprod.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/image2-1-768x484.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Text Length<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The written portion of your ad has limits on Instagram &#8211; with the maximum being 2200 characters and the \u201crecommended\u201d max being only 125 characters. You may hear that having shorter ad copy a.k.a. shorter text in your ads is better. On Instagram, I\u2019d agree shorter is usually the way to go, but again\u2026 that\u2019s not always true or necessarily often true. Don\u2019t be afraid to hit that maximum <em>if <\/em>you\u2019re a killer copywriter. Based on millions of dollars of data that I\u2019ve seen, short and long text can perform equally as good, especially on Facebook. The biggest factor in how your text performs is how compelling and well-structured the writing actually is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EXPERT TIP: Add an extra space between sentences. Use bullet points to make it look less overwhelming. Make it sound conversational (like you\u2019re talking to a friend).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Text Location<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the Facebook News Feed, the primary text is above the button and video\/image. On Instagram\u2019s News Feed it\u2019s below the button and image\/video. And on Instagram Stories, it\u2019s below the video but above the button.
